Bertier creates custom and bespoke footwear and leather goods, combining traditional shoemaking techniques with modern design. Every piece is individually made in South Africa by a master shoemaker, using exceptional materials and meticulous hand-finishing.
Founded in 2020 by Jean-Laurent Teplitsky, Bertier brings more than 15 years of bespoke shoemaking experience to modern footwear and leather goods.
Jean’s craft was shaped by visits to ateliers and workshops across France, Spain, Japan and England, alongside multiple apprenticeships at Corthay in Paris, before bringing his craft home to South Africa.
Today, every Bertier creation is made individually by his hands – from concept to completion.
Whether reworking an iconic sneaker or creating something entirely bespoke, every Bertier begins with a commitment to exceptional craft.
Materials are carefully selected, then cut, skived, assembled, stitched, hammered and finished by hand using traditional bespoke techniques.
South African Nile crocodile sits alongside premium calf lining leathers from Italy and Spain, with quality, traceability and considered sourcing at the heart of the process.
More than 60 hours of craftsmanship go into each pair.
